They bring together women of diverse cultures and backgorunds to address the root cause of poverty, hardship, and conflict. This allows the members to work to promote justice and dignity for women and children. Independent from the government, corporate, or national interests, they highlight the abuse of human rights throughout the world, educate and mobilize the public, and compaign to improve women's international rights. (Safeworld Foundation) Funding Safeworld International relies solely on the donations of their suporters for their project funding.
It says on their website,"We are all volunteers. We recieve no government funding and our work depends on your generousity through donations and sponsorship." Where the Money GoesWhere does the money go, exactly? It will be used for-
Major Past Successes Overall, the organization says that their greatest success is the relationships that they have built with their grass-roots partners in other countries. You can see a list of these organizations here. Safeworld gives these smaller organizations the funding and positive exposure to media they need to make a difference. With Safeworld, they would not have this exposure, since many of them are based in developing countries without the same access to resources that we are used to.
Through their partnerships with A Safe World For Women, these organizations have had a chance to make their voices heard. Because of the international success of the website, their voices have been heard by some of the most internationally renowned leaders in women's rights. Also, Safeworld International is very proud of the advocating they have done for the release of prisoners who have been unjustly detained. On at least two occasions, Safeworld International has played a key role in releasing women prisoners who were detained wrongly. Advertisement - Take a LookAbout A Safe World For Women from M. About 'A Safe World For Women'
A Safe World For Women is a non governmental organization under the title Safeworld International Foundation. Their focus is campaigning for the rights of women on an international scale.
How Safeworld International is Different This organization is different from many other NGOs because they work closely with grass-roots partners in many countries across the globe. This allows them to better tackle the main causes of poverty and oppression, to promote women's empowerment, and to bring about the changes necessary to positively alter women's social and economic problems on a global scale.
They tackle all sorts of problems across the globe- everything from illiteracy to honor killings. Many organizations focus on one specific problem, whereas A Safe World For Women covers any problem they can that will make a postive change for women and children. Establishment of Safeworld International_ The idea for this organization was started in May of 2008 by the founder, Chris Crowstaff. Just two months later, in July, they launched their online community, gaining many supporters from around the world.
Originally, the organization was registered under the name Women for a Change International Foundation. The following year, upon the founder's return from Uganda, the organization launched their field partner and grass-roots partner programs. These now are a vital part of Safeworld International and everything they stand for. In 2009, the name of their organization was changed to The Safeworld International Foundation. Staff and Volunteers The core volunteer council consists of nine volunteers, including the founder and her co-trustee. This core council is very dedicated to the project and all that they are working towards. They worl almost all day, every day, juggling Safeworld around other commitments.
In addition, there are ten correspondents, who are also all volunteers. The correspondants are based in countries across the globe. Here, they gather information on news stories of interest to the organization and report back to the student writers. The student writers are a combination of competent budding journalists from around the world. They work as volunteers for Safeworld, where they turn facts and news into articles for their website. This gives them an opportunity to be published and gain recognition from leading women's rights activists and organizations from across the globe Criticisms In a personal email with the founder, Chris Crowstaff, she said, "I am delighted to say that feedback tends to be positive - I can't offhand think of any criticisms we've received. I think that we are actually our own biggest critics, and constantly wishing we could do more."
This goes to show how dedicated the people involved in the project are, as well as the positive presence they have in the world. Work Environment The organization is entirely volunteer based, and so the volunteers contribute whatever time they have free to the project. For the core council however, they work all day, everyday. It is a big time commitment, and these people are very dedicated to their projects.
At Safeworld International, there are many opportunities to work with and meet others from all over the world. It is a great work environment due to the people that work there. They are all such inspiring people who work and work, but never expect any recognition in return. "Safe World sharpens my perspective on life, builds my confidence in publicly advocating for what I value and believe in, and expands my horizons through networking with people around the globe. I feel that Safe World has permeated every cell of my body, as much of my waking hours are spent working on behalf of Safe World, even on weekends." -Clara Boxall, Trustee and Director of Communications Essay on Safeworld
